Brauerei Greifenklau Introduces a Weizenbier
Wheat beers are one of the fastest growing segments of the German beer market and so it is not surprising that breweries are developing wheat beers to fill that niche. In fact, over the years most of the Bamberg breweries have produced a wheat beer, including the Rauchbier breweries of Schlernkla and Spezial. With the introduction of Greifenklau Weizen the list is complete -- all of the Bamberg Breweries now brew a wheat beer. Seen on the right in the picture below, it has the traditional yeasty cloudiness of a hefeweizen. The flavor is tart and spicy and there is a little bit of fruitiness in the aroma -- just like a wheat beer should be. Give it a try on your next visit to Greifenklau.
Update 12Sep03: It has been rumoured that the Greifenlklau Weizen is actually brewed by Braurei Maisel. This past summer Greifenklau also was serving a Pils, but there was no noticeble increase in brewing.
