Reserved tables at Schlenkerla

The "serving hatch" area at Schlenkerla. In the corridor, there are two tables opposite. Last time I visited a few weeks ago, both tables had Reserved cards on them. One was full with local people. The other was completely empty during my stay. I thought these tables were there for anyone who wanted to drop in for a quick beer. Or is it a Stammtisch area? On a related note, I visited the Nuremberg altstadtfest. The rain was lashing down outside, but inside the dry warm tents there were rows of empty tables, all Reserved.
