Regarding Heidelberg lodgings, one popular option is to stay in nearby Mannheim, which has places like the Cityhotel, single rooms for € 60,- with breakfast, € 52,50 without. The train journey between the two cities is brief. On the web: http://www.city-hotel-mannheim.de/ For Heidelberg drinking, Vetter (http://www.brauhaus-vetter.de/) is worth a look, and will probably have a Weihnachtsbock on, as well as their notorious Vetter 33, as in 33 degrees Stammwürze. For one possible Nürnberg Ausflug, consider Sulzbach-Rosenberg and Amberg. S-R has a fine town center, and is home to Sperber-Bräu, complete with brewery, restaurant/tavern, and hotel. Amberg is also worth a stop. Another good day-trip destination would be Regensburg, where you'll find Kneitinger's Bock to slake your thirst after touring the town center. -- dgs
