Fred switched his 'ie' around to 'ei'...happens easily enough. He hadn't drunk enough Kellerbier yesterday, obviously! dict.leo.org is the most comprehensive online Wörterbuch, IMO. Next time you're at a Bahnhof, look around for a kaputt ticket machine; it'll have a sign on it saying "Außer Betrieb"--out of service/order. "Betrieb", as you can see via LEO, is a fairly general word.
