| Splendid, splendid day at the Fest with AndyH and Jezrauchbier. I arrived before the others and had a fine lunch at the Winterbauer Keller with St. Georgenbräu's Festbier, which is a much more impressive Festbier than their Kellerbier is as a Kellerbier. Shared litres easily enough: I'd brought my special 2005 commemorative Masskrug (Forchheim's 1200 year Jubliäum), which MOST places had no problem filling up in lieu of one of their regular Keller's Masskrüge. Staff at Winterbauer were impressed that I had such a Krug and threatened to switch mine with one of theirs... Hoffmann Keller (Br. Krug-Breitenlesau) and Löwenbräu-Buttenheim forced me to use their Krüge, upon which I would simply pour the beer into my Krug and give them theirs back, to their bewilderment. It didn't matter to them that mine was an Annafest Krug from 2 years ago--their logo wasn't on it, therefore they wouldn't pour into it. Sharing a litre among three is a fine way to sample most/all of the Festbiere in a single afternoon. Here's how it's done: Each of you pays the 5€ Pfand for a Krug at one Keller, then when you've drunk that beer, one of you give a Krug back, and the other two take the remaining two to the next Keller. Buy a litre there and split it with the other two--only, you can't really sit at the Keller's tables and do this, if there is wait service there: the staff don't like to see Krüge from other Keller(s), nor sharing of beer. But stand in the street or sit on a tree stump and everything's fine. Hope that makes sense. I may indeed head back to the Fest again this week. |
