Umlaut

On an US keyboard with Windows you can get special characters with alt+numeric(from keypad with num-lock on), e.g. alt-0228 for ä alt-0246 for ö alt-0252 for ü There are others for the capitals but I use the character map for those (since they don't happen all that often). On a Mac its different. I use a windows keyboard on my Mac so I don't know the "proper" name for the alt key ("option" or "cmd" I think, but I forget which) Anyways "alt-u" is the umlaut combination: alt-u a for ä alt-u o for ö alt-u u for ü etc.
