Unlike the southern and western romanic parts of Spain or the unique Basque country (the Basques are ethnically autochthonous and one of the last surviving pre-indoeuropean people), Asturies and Galicia are ethnically and culturally celtic. The name Galicia derives from the celtic tribe name "Gallaeci". Asturias or Asturies was/is inhabited by another tribe that arrived approx. 800 bc, the Astures. So you find many paralleles to Ireland, Scotland or Brittany: Sidra/Cider/Cidre, the Gaita/bagpipes, lots of fairies in mythology, a very similar architectual style (stone houses with a chimney on each end), similar traditions, similar dances, similar songs, and so on. So, it's very different to the romanic iberian world. For vegetarians like me: no seafood but "pimientos de padron" and "tortilla espanola". And of course the famous "fabada" in Asturies...
