Pale ale is a sort of corruption of English IMO, since it can be copper-colo(u)red or nearly brown as you say. "Hell" is pale, but truly pale.
I can't remember the exact history of pale ale now...were they called "pale" because they weren't completely brown like other beer at the time, or were they really pale pale back then?
And where does Braunbier fit on the colo(u)r continuum of fränkisches Bier -- paler or darker than "dunkel"? I reckon paler. |
