A 1918 Bamberg Guidebook

Ron Pattinson provided these scans of a 1918 Bamberg guidebook Bamberg und Umgebung by Anton Schuster (Bamberger Tagblatt-Druckerei, 1918).

Click on the image to open a full size image. The text pages are about 250K each The commentary is by me (Fred Waltman).

The following pages talk about Brauerei Eckenbüttner which was on the Maxplatz (A department store is there now), Brauerei Einhorn on Sandstrasse (building is still there as Nelson Lounge, see Historical Breweries of Sandstrasse), Braurei zum Fässchen (now Brauerei Fässla), Brauerei Heller ("Schlenkerla"), and Brauerei Kleebaum (destroyed during WWII when accidently bombed by Allied aircraft).

These pages discuss Brauerei Maisel (both on Moostrasse and on Obere Königstrasse where the Bamberger Weissbierhaus is today), Brauerei Michaelsberg (where the Franconian Brewery Museum is today), Braurei Polar Bär (where the resturant Bolero is today, see Brauerei zum Polarbär ), Braurei zum Röckelein (where the Tapas Bar is today), Brauerei zur Wiessen Taube (the Hotel Ibis stands where the brewery used to), and Braurei zur Wilden Rose (still exists as a hotel and resturant).

These pages cover Braurei zum Schlüssel (where the nightclub Capri Keller is today, see Historical Breweries of Sandstrasse ), Brauerei Spezial (still there -- the owner then was Christian Merz, same as today!)
