I couldn't see it.der vogelbrau Posted by maxine on 3/4/2010 2:54:14 PMhttp://franconiabeerguide.com/discussdet.asp?IDKEY=ZZ9D01to repeat, do they still make this beer? I have a really nice handled double shot glass with their red and green coat of arms on it.der vogelbrau Posted by JosB on 3/4/2010 3:30:02 PMhttp://franconiabeerguide.com/discussdet.asp?IDKEY=ZZ9D0101Der Vogelbräu is definitely still made - however it is brewed in Karlsruhe (and Ettlingen and Durlach, both suburbs of Karlsruhe - Baden Wurttemberg, not even Bavaria). Rudi Vogel (the founder/owner) is a regular visitor of Bamberg, and at my last visit of Vogelbräu in KA they had a special whisky of the week - Blaue Maus Spinnaker from Fleischmann in Eggolsheim - franconian indeed.OT: East Bavaria recommendations Posted by mike004 on 3/1/2010 8:44:38 AMhttp://franconiabeerguide.com/discussdet.asp?IDKEY=ZZ9EAny recommendations for beer tourist locations in east Bavaria? I have been to Regensburg previously, and was quite impressed. Some of the beers there were nearly as good as Franconian ones! How about Straubing or Passau. The latter sounds like a picturesque place, and the Lowenbrau of Passau beers are pretty good in my limited experience. PS: I am not a weissbier fan. OT: East Bavaria recommendations Posted by Mark Andersen on 3/1/2010 11:08:09 AMhttp://franconiabeerguide.com/discussdet.asp?IDKEY=ZZ9E01Sorry I can't speak from direct experience yet but there are a couple of places that I'm looking to visit this coming July in the Bavarian Forest. The first is one I saw mention of on Ron Pattinson's blog: http://www.brauerei-eck.de/ http://barclayperkins.blogspot.com/2008/04/baterischer-wald-part2.html The other one is this: http://www.gut-riedelsbach.de/ I found out about this one on this website: http://www.braugasthoefe.de They are about as east as you can get. I expect that I will visit Brauerei Eck. I'm not sure about the other one. OT: East Bavaria recommendations Posted by mike004 on 3/1/2010 12:18:38 PMhttp://franconiabeerguide.com/discussdet.asp?IDKEY=ZZ9E0101Thanks for your recommendations. http://www.braugasthoefe.de The head office of this organization is based in Memmelsdorf, by the way. I seem to recall there is some connection with Drei Kronen. OT: East Bavaria recommendations Posted by Mark Andersen on 3/1/2010 1:11:23 PMhttp://franconiabeerguide.com/discussdet.asp?IDKEY=ZZ9E010101Yeah I think the owner of Drei Kronen is the one that started or at least heads up that association. I do find it a helpful website when visiting other parts of Germany outside of Franconia. OT: East Bavaria recommendations Posted by JosB on 3/3/2010 2:55:49 PMhttp://franconiabeerguide.com/discussdet.asp?IDKEY=ZZ9E01010101Actually Ludwig Straub from 3 Kronen Memmelsdorf took over the initiative, in the past it used to be Klosterbrauerei Andechs (or was it Irsee?) IIRCOT: East Bavaria recommendations Posted by TreinJan on 3/1/2010 1:25:41 PMhttp://franconiabeerguide.com/discussdet.asp?IDKEY=ZZ9E02Have you already visited the Zoigl Region, i.e. middle and north Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz)?OT: East Bavaria recommendations Posted by mike004 on 3/2/2010 12:55:02 AMhttp://franconiabeerguide.com/discussdet.asp?IDKEY=ZZ9E0201>Have you already visited the Zoigl Region, i.e. middle and north Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz)?< No, I haven't. It sounds too much trouble to be honest, having to track down which pub is open on a given day. Is Zoigl beer worth the extra trouble? And what does Zoigl taste like? Is it similar to Franconian kellerbiers, for example?
