Texts, translations and errors (Attn John White)

It is difficult enough to write a decent text in one's mother tongue, let alone in another language. I still encounter spelling mistakes in texts I may have written a year or more ago, and then when you think everything is in order, somebody else finds an error. Internet translation like babelfish can give some insight, but the results are not great. On the other hand it is quite funny to see where things can go wrong: in my text I mention the lower CO2 level of Kellerbier/Ungespundetes; in Dutch, CO2 is koolzuur. Babelfish takes the two elements (kool zuur) and literally translates these: cabbage acid. Wrong kind of kool, and I definitely do not like cabbage in my beer. On the other hand, a translation can go wrong if there is a mistake in the original text, or when it is wrongly copied. I was rereading John White's page on Amberg and found just such a faulty translation (which I overlooked earlier). It says about the menu at Kummert Bräu: "Wilderteller" (Game Plate), which is Gebratene Medaillons von Reh, Hirsch und Wildschwein in Hollundersauce mit Speck-Pilzen dazu hausgemachte Spätzle und Salatteller, and translates this as: Medallions of Roe Deer, Venison and Wild Boar in Hollandaise Sauce, with Bacon Mushrooms, Home-Made Pasta and Mixed Salad). I only noticed because of the strange combination of "Wild" and sauce hollandaise. What the menue probably will have said (or meant) is Holunder, that is elderberry! (Apart from that, thanks for the info John - it prompted my curiosity in the first place, so that after a short visit last april I will spend a few days in and around Amberg next august).
