Nick and all, Please note that DUI laws in Germany also applies to bikers - you may lose your driver's license if you are in an accident (or even without an accident, but then you need to be really blasted and I doubt you'd be able to get on a bike at all in that state...) A concise summary in German on www.ra-kassing.de/verkehr/strafre/promille/fahrrad.htm My personal preference is walking, and there are plenty of hiking paths in Franconia, especially in Franconian Switzerland. When you walked an hour or two there seems always to be a nice Gaststätte or Brauereigaststätte around.
